COROZAL TOWN, Fri. Nov. 5, 2021 — Sometime before 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 5, a traffic accident occurred in a public parking lot that might have been the cause of the death of an elderly man of Ranchito Village of Corozal.
According to reports, while Belizean psychiatric nurse, Amanda Montejo, 48, was reversing her grey Ford Escape as she exited the One Mall parking lot on the Philip Goldson Highway in Corozal, the vehicle apparently hit Antonio Williams, an elderly man of the Corozal District.
Montejo quickly assisted Williams into her car and drove him to the Corozal Community Hospital for treatment. Initially, Williams was receptive to the treatment, and he was discharged from the hospital at 3:45 p.m. On that same day, however, Williams started to feel adverse effects and returned to the hospital around 7:40 p.m. While receiving treatment for the second time, he passed away.
Following his death, investigators have issued a notice of intended prosecution to Montejo. At the moment, investigators have not been able to confirm that Williams’ death was caused by trauma from the accident. The authorities are awaiting the results of a post-mortem exam to determine whether or not charges will be levied upon Montejo.
