GeneralElection & Boundaries Commission members invited as observers of Venezuelan elections

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Nov. 15, 2021 — Today, the Elections & Boundaries Commission released a statement informing the public that three of its members will be sent to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to participate in the oversight of the upcoming elections scheduled for November 21, 2021.

The three members will participate in the International Electoral Oversight Plan for the National Election Council, and will also be tasked to observe the regional and municipal elections in the republic.

In the release, the president of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela is thanked for the warm invitation.

The officials from Belize will have their work cut out for them. This coming election will be the first election in Venezuela since 2018 in which the majority of Opposition members in that country will participate. In 2018 Opposition parties boycotted the presidential elections and in 2020 they boycotted the parliamentary elections.

More than 3,000 positions are to be filled by means of the upcoming electoral process, and 21 million voters are within the country. International observers will be tasked to produce a preliminary report within two days of the vote and a final report within two months. Joining the three-team delegation from Belize are 44 EU observers and 4 from the United States.
