Elridge “Postman” Latchman returns

SportsElridge “Postman” Latchman returns

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Nov. 2, 2017–On his last visit to our sports desk back in May of 2008, we did a story on Elridge Latchman titled, “The original ‘Postman’ visits”.

An outstanding all-round athlete in his youth in Belize, Latchi stopped by our sports desk again on Monday, October 30, and reminisced on his sports/life journey from childhood days until his departure from Belize at 23 years of age, still at the top of his game in football, in 1970.  Now retired at 70, and with a wealth of experience and training under his belt, Latchi, who has made regular visits back home to the Jewel over the years, is focused on doing what he can to help improve the sporting infrastructure (his specialty is in construction of sports facilities) and programs for youths in Belize.

We had assisted him in making contact with Sports Director Ian Jones, and today Elridge said that he just had a very good meeting (10:00 a.m.) with Jones, and also a good meeting (11:00) with Minister of Sports and Education, Hon. Patrick Faber. They reportedly agreed on some follow-up plans, and Elridge said he expects to be back in mid-January to begin action on the plans he has for his home town.

He was scheduled to return to the U.S. on Saturday, November 4. Big respect every time to “the original Postman!”
