BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 9, 2021– On Friday night a little before 9:00, police arrived at the scene of a road traffic accident on Bullet Tree Road that claimed the life of one man. Reports are that the victim, identified as Orlando Samuel Williams, was hit by a vehicle being driven by San Ignacio resident Leon Smalls.
Smalls reported that he became aware he had hit something when he heard a loud bang, after which he exited his vehicle to see what he had struck. Upon checking, he found the lifeless body of Williams on the right side of the road.
When police arrived on the scene, they rushed Williams to the Western Regional Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Smalls has since been charged with failure to provide a blood specimen and has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
Police say that Williams regularly walked along that portion of the Bullet Tree Road.
