Belmopan police are seeking three armed robbers, one a female, who robbed and injured a University of Belize student, who was cut on the back of the head and throat. The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. yesterday, Tuesday, April 9, on the sidewalk in the Belmopan Comprehensive High School area of Belmopan.

The student told police that he was walking on the sidewalk in the area when a masked man jumped out of the bushes and aimed a gun at him, demanding money. He said that he immediately grabbed the man and tried to take away the gun. But then, two more armed, masked thieves came out of the bushes and attacked him, he said, adding that one of the two robbers was a female who was armed with a knife.

He grabbed the knife from the female, but they subdued him and stole his money, his identification cards, including his driver’s license, and his Blackberry cell phone. The three robbers then escaped.

Police were called, but could not find the thieves.

The student must now reapply for a driver’s license, and obtain a new Social Security card.
