BELIZE CITY, Mon. May 7, 2018– The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) National Amateur Inter-District Club Championship 2018 kicked off over the weekend with 8 games played in its “Round of Sixteen” home-and-away knockout series. The return legs will be held on May 12 & 13, after which the eight winners will qualify to enter the Quarterfinal Round draw, which will be held on Tuesday, May 15.

On Saturday, at the Santa Elena Sporting Complex, Cayo’s Peniarol FC prevailed, 3-0, over Arenal FC from Benque, with a goal each from Alex Saldivar (5’), Roy Cano (30’) and Jorge Monroy (56’). Meanwhile, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, it was Belmopan’s Valley United FC, 2-1, over Benque’s Red Bull FC. Shaking the net for Valley United were Wilberth Maldonado (9’) and Emerson Orellana (36’), while Noel Hyde (68’) scored for Red Bulll.

In the first of six Sunday games, it was 3-3 between Corozal’s Chunox FC and Belize City’s Kelly Street FC at the Santiago Ricalde Stadium in Corozal. Chunox goals were by Eber Santoya (16’) and Reimer Santoya (76’ & 90’), while Kelly Street goals from Francisco Briceno (10’ & 40’) and Tyreek Muschamp (33’). Meanwhile, at the Calcutta Football Field, Darrol Lambey (78’) scored the game winner for Orange Walk’s Trinidad FC’s 1-nil victory over Calcutta Young Starz of Corozal. It was the same score at the Louisiana Football Field, where Hector Carlos (84’) led Orange Walk’s Progresso FC to the 1-nil win over Terror Squad FC from San Pedro. Here at the MCC Grounds in Belize City, a late goal by Shawn Roches gave home standing FC Elite the 3-2 win over Club Atletico FC from Belmopan. Scoring for FC Elite were Tyriq Ciego (30’), Leon “Lem” Jones (57’) and Shawn Roches (87’); while Club Atletico got a goal apiece from Edmond Pandy, Jr. (25’) and Jose Galdamez (33’). Down south at the Victor Sanchez Union Field, it was Punta Gorda’s Tribal FC, 3-1, over Valley Pride Impacts FC of Dangriga. Goals for Tribal FC came from Joel Cabral (18’ & 31’) and Rajiv Mangar (52’), while Ramon Olmedo (78’) scored for Valley Pride. And at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, home team B&B Landshark FC got the 4-2 win over Altitude FC from Independence. B&B goals were by Carlos Lino (9’ & 58’), Donnell Arzu (33’) and Stephen Martinez (63’); while Altitude got a goal each from Alwin Zalaya (45’) and Andre Logan (88’).
