Former Belmopan Mayor held up at gun point last night

Breaking NewsFormer Belmopan Mayor held up at gun point last night

Former Belmopan Mayor Anthony Chanona was held up at gun point last night in front the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Belmopan. Chanona had just left a church service and was headed to his pickup truck when he was approached by two Hispanic male persons, one armed with a firearm. The armed robber pointed the gun at Chanona and demanded his belongings. Chanona struggled with his robbers after which one of them push him and he fell to the ground and cried out for help. The men then ran off.

According to Plus News Channona said that he is fortunate to be alive. Chanona says he plans to use this frightening experience as a platform to address the larger issue of crime within the capital City of Belmopan. Chanona has reportedly scheduled a meeting with the ComPol this afternoon.
