BELIZE CITY, Thurs. June 1, 2023

A big hello to all cricket enthusiasts! As the competition draws nearer to the playoffs, teams are going for the kill.

Under the auspices of the Belize National Cricket Association, the Barry Bowen / Harrison Parks Cricket Competition 2023 was in high gear over the weekend. In no particular order, I am going to give you the results of those matches.

At Landing, Summa Feva took care of BDF very handily. BDF took to bat first, and at the fall of the last wicket, under the super bowling of Gareth Banner, Jr.., who took 4 big wickets of the soldiers, the team only scored 92 runs. After lunch break, Feva went to bat. As hard as BDF bowler Alexander Reynolds tried (he took 4 wickets), he could not slow down Feva batsman Kenton Young who scored 40 runs; added to other runs scored by his teammates the score was beaten with 4 wickets to spare. Gareth Banner, Jr. was named Man of that Match.

At Lemonal, Wicked 11 jumped over Surprise, 187 to 88. For Surprise, Learon Muslar scored 37 and took 7 wickets. For Wicked 11, Travis Robinson and Keon Robinson scored 49 and 31, respectively; Brandon Lewis took 4 wickets and was named Man of the Match.

At the pleasant village of Willows, Brave 11 Reloaded took care of St. Paul’s Strikers, 112 to 105. For St. Paul’s Strikers, Lloyd Cassasola and Francis Stevens scored 22 and 20, respectively. Maleek Sutherland took 6 wickets. For Brave 11 Reloaded, Sherman Roca scored 25, and Jerome Pook took 4 wickets. Jerome Pook was named Man of the Match.

Now let us check Tropical Disturbance against Rising Star. In this specific match it was plain that one of the two teams was no match for the other. Tropical Disturbance, under the stewardship of Howel Gillett, did not have any sympathy on Rising Star by devouring them, 336 to 118. For Tropical Disturbance, Howell Gillett and Leon Segura scored 74 and 56, respectively; while Arvil Codd took 2 wickets. For Rising Star, Emerson Olivera took 3 wickets. Bra Howell Gillett was named Man of the Match.

Weekend Warriors slipped down and allowed Long Journey to smash them. It was not a one-sided match, though; both teams played very well. At the end of the match, Long Journey proved to be the better team. Long Journey went to bat first and scored 192, with Jamal Shaw scoring 60. Then Weekend Warriors had their turn, but could only score 189, with Egbert Robinson scoring 54. Edison Robinson took 4 of Long Journey’s wickets, and Kaven Dawson took 4 of Weekend Warriors’ wickets.

Brave Union Boys beat Progressive, 84 to 86 with 6 spare wickets. Full results were not made available to me.

If all goes as planned, the following matches are scheduled for the weekend.

On Saturday, 3rd June – BDF vs Western Eagles at Rancho; Rising Star vs Progressive at Landing; Long Journey vs St. Paul’s Strikers at St. Paul’s.

On Sunday, 4th June – Golden Eagles vs Weekend Warriors at Flowers Bank; and Brave 11 Reloaded vs Tropical Disturbance at Biscayne.

I have noticed that Wicked 11 of Flowers Bank are practicing international standards. This team has two different uniforms – one for “home” games and the other for “away” from home; PINK FOR AWAY FROM HOME, and BLUE AND YELLOW FOR HOME GAMES. Looks great!

And that’s all, my brothers and sisters. Come on out and cheer for your team, sharing all the love and respect to all. What a beautiful weekend of CRICKET is planned!  Until next week, Adios!
