German woman dies in Hattieville road accident

InternationalGerman woman dies in Hattieville road accident

A German businesswoman and owner of the All Seasons Resort in Hopkins, Ingrid Stahl, 56, died after the vehicle in which she was travelling, from Belmopan to Hopkins, plunged over the embankment of a bridge at Mile 18 on the Hummingbird Highway, into the water about 25 feet below. She died almost immediately.

Another occupant of the vehicle was injured and the third escaped unhurt.

Information to Amandala is that Stahl lost control of her vehicle at the approach to the bridge and the vehicle plunged into the water.

People in the area tried to rescue her, but were unsuccessful. Police took Stahl to the Dangriga Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. She reportedly suffered massive head and body injuries.

Then at about 3:30 Tuesday evening, Love FM news director and talk show personality Ava Diaz-Sosa and her cameraman, Brian Castillo, were travelling on the George Price Highway from Belmopan to Belize City, when at Mile 43, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to slide off the road and overturn.

Fortunately, however, there were no fatalities or serious injuries. Diaz-Sosa said that she was wearing her seatbelt. She was looking at the road and saw that the highway was wet, since it was drizzling. According to Diaz-Sosa, she had just talked with her mother-in-law, telling her that they were travelling back to the city, and that it was drizzling when suddenly she saw the driver, Castillo, lose control. He was trying to keep the vehicle on the road, but it ran off the road and flipped, Diaz-Sosa said.

Diaz-Sosa said that she suddenly found herself upside down in the vehicle. She was praying, and believes that God answered her prayers, because both of them were unhurt.

Another traffic accident, which occurred around 5:00 Saturday evening near the Fresh Pond junction with the Boom/Hattieville Road, has left a man in a critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Fabien Martinez, 31, suffered massive head and body injuries when an SUV vehicle crashed into his motorcycle.

The driver of the SUV told police that he was travelling from Boom towards Hattieville and the motorcycle was travelling in the opposite direction, from Hattieville to Burrell Boom, when the man on the motorcycle turned right into the Fresh Pond area, and the SUV slammed into the motorcycle.

The driver of the SUV said that he was travelling about 35 to 40 miles per hour when the collision occurred.

Police are investigating.

Martinez’s family said that he is badly hurt and believe that the vehicle rolled over him after slamming into his motorcycle. The family is urging people to pray for Fabian Martinez’s recovery.
