CrimeGiovanni Ramos, 20, has carnal knowledge case committed to Supreme Court

Ramos was warned to stay away from the victim after the court was informed that he tried to intimidate her.

Giovanni Ramos, 20, was lucky to have been offered bail today when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser after his victim told the court that he tried to intimidate her. Ramos was charged with carnal knowledge, and one of the conditions of his Supreme Court bail was that he not contact nor harass the victim, now 14.

In August of last year, Ramos was arraigned for the charge, which allegedly occurred on July 3, 2012, when the female student was only 13 years and two months old.

This morning, the preliminary inquiry was held to determine whether the prosecution had enough evidence for a prima facie case against Ramos. The prosecution presented statements from the victim, her mother, her aunt, the arresting officer, and the doctor who examined her, as well as other statements. Documentary evidence included a medico-legal form that the doctor filled out after examining the child, her birth certificate, and other documents.

The Senior Magistrate, after viewing the evidence presented to her, determined that this evidence was sufficient to commit the matter to the January session of the Supreme Court.

When asked if he would call any witnesses on his behalf, Ramos gave the names of Jose Quiroa, Alberto Ramos, Jersha Elijio, Roy Latchman and Amir Cocom.

It was at this point that the prosecutor informed the court that the victim had revealed that Ramos, along with a “Spanish” man, had been trying to intimidate her. That “Spanish” person turned out to be Jose Quiroa, one of the same persons who Ramos had just named as a witness of his.

Both Ramos and Quiroa were sternly warned by the Senior Magistrate to stay away from the victim and that if any of them, or anyone on his behalf, harassed her, his bail would be revoked and he would be returned to prison until the case had seen its entirety.

Ramos was then offered bail of $5,000 and one surety of the same amount.
