BELIZE CITY, Fri. Feb. 19, 2021– Last Friday, another round of budget consultations were held between Government and domestic stakeholders, this time the agro-productive sector. Since the start of the consultations, representatives from the Government of Belize have engaged in talks with stakeholders in the NGO community, the business community, and now, most recently, the agro-productive sector.

Present at the meeting were Prime Minister John Briceño; the CEO in the Ministry of Finance, Narda Garcia, and the Minister of State inside that Ministry, Chris Coye. Also present at the meeting was the Minister of Tourism, Anthony Mahler, who shared with the media some of the concerns that were expressed by the agro-sector reps.

He said that major areas of discussion were related to taxes, the overall regulatory environment, and generally, the support the sector might need in order to become more productive.

According to Minister Mahler, the participants said that they are pleased that this government is listening to their calls for support. He added that they have indicated that they will continue to listen and work together for the rejuvenation of our economy.
