Guatemalan man sentenced to 6 months for sexual assault of 6-year-old

GeneralGuatemalan man sentenced to 6 months for sexual assault of 6-year-old

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Oct. 18, 2021– Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser has sentenced a Guatemalan national to six months in prison for an act of sexual assault against a 6-year-old little girl.

The convicted man, Francisco Figueroa, 56, remained silent in court as the overwhelming evidence was presented against him, including an en-camera testimony from the victim, a girl just 6 years and 7 months old at the time.

The incident reportedly occurred on April 30, 2017. The child testified that on that day Figueroa kissed her on the lips and touched her private area.

In handing down sentencing after finding Figueroa guilty, Chief Magistrate Fraser said that the evidence against the accused was overwhelming.

Figueroa was remanded without bail since 2017 after the prosecution successfully argued that he was fleet risk given his Guatemalan origins.
