CrimeGungulung resident shot in the back

A resident of the Gungulung area of the Lake I area, Ephraim Assi, 22, of Miller Street, was shot in his back by an unknown gunman while he and other men were sitting on the basketball court bleachers in the Mahogany Street Extension area, behind the Charles Bartlett Hyde Complex Building, near the Ministry of Education building, at about 9:30 Saturday night.

Police said that an unknown gunman made his way behind the men and fired six shots at Assi, hitting him in the right upper back, right hand, right buttocks and right thigh.

Assi was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he has been declared to be in a serious, but stable condition.

Police said that they believe that Assi was the target of the attack, and that the shooting was gang related.
