BELIZE CITY–The 2014 Central Secondary School Sports Association (CSSSA) Basketball tournament started off today at the Bird’s Isle where Gwen Lizarraga High School (GLHS) went up against Maud Williams High School (MWHS) in both the male and female games.

GLHS blew out MWHS by 23 points in the male game which ended 50-27. GLHS’s top scorers were Rene Myvett (11 pts) and Devantae Middleton (8 pts), while Kenroy McKoy and Selwyn McDonald of MWHS finished the game with 11 and 7 points respectively.

Gwen Liz was also victorious in the girls’ game whereby they outscored Maud Williams High School by three times as much in a game that ended 36-12.

Kayla Bowen (20pts) and Tyra Moreira (13pts) were the top scorers for GLHS, while Latifa Ferguson, of MWHS, scored 6 points.

On Thursday, Anglican Cathedral College (ACC) will face Wesley College (WES) in the male and female categories, and on Saturday, Maud Williams High School and Pallotti High School will play first, followed by Ladyville Technical High School (LTHS) and Wesley College in the female games, then LTHS and Sadie Vernon High School (SVHS) will play in the first male game.

The next male match will feature MWHS and Nazarene High School (NHS).
