Hon. Cordel takes land clinic to San Pedro

SAN PEDRO, Ambergris Caye, Fri. Aug. 6, 2021– On Thursday, August 5, and Friday, August 6, the Ministry of Natural Resources hosted a land clinic in San Pedro Town at the San Pedro High School auditorium. Many San Pedro residents were present at the session to take the opportunity to have the ministry review various land issues — a process that would normally require a visit to the main department in Belmopan.

Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Cordel Hyde noted at the session that the visit to San Pedro was highly requested and long overdue. There was a range of services that the San Pedro residents were able to access, since key members of the entire Lands Department in Belmopan accompanied Hon. Hyde on the trip.

Hon. Hyde told local reporters that, at the clinic, the services which were dispensed included the provision of leases, the issuance of purchase approvals and processing of payment for such approvals, and the granting of permission to survey and issuance of land titles.

Hon. Hyde also noted while speaking to local media that, prior to last year’s general elections, land that was being inhabited by persons for years was frantically signed off to other persons. Hyde pledged to find a diplomatic way to resolve such issues and expressed the hope that just settlements can be agreed upon by both de facto and de jure land owners.
