HOPKINS, Stann Creek District, Wed. Aug. 18, 2021– An 84-year-old Canadian expat was found flooding lifeless in the sea near the resort she owned.

Jeannette Barkman, 84, owner of Jungle Jeannie's by the Sea located in Hopkins, apparently drowned during a morning stroll and possible swim yesterday.

Her body was found near her resort on Tuesday morning after her employees became concerned about her whereabouts and began searching for her.

Barkman was found floating in the water near her resort and was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead according to reports. A post-mortem examination of her body is underway, but at this time there is no indication of foul play.
