BELIZE CITY, Thurs. May 18, 2023

A very big and wonderful hello to all cricket enthusiasts! Under the auspices of the Belize National Cricket Association, the Barry Bowen / Harrison Parks Cricket Competition 2023 rolls on with some bats showing off better than others. My stats will show you what I mean.

In Landing, history was made when for the first time as I can remember, a FEMALE played on male team against a full male team. The owner/manager of Progressive Cricket Club, SEAN NICHOLAS, registered JACY FLOWERS of Bermudian Landing to play on his team, PROGRESSIVE. For the very first time, this female plays a 50-Over match. Not only that; when her team was batting, she hit 3 boundaries (for 4) and a couple singles. To top it all off, her team defeated Golden Eagles, 119 to 82. Hats off to you, Jacy! You have cracked the ceiling open for other females to follow through. Thanks, Mr. Nicholas, for the bold step you took, exposing the quality of women in Belize in cricket. For Progressive, Alex Arnold and Michael Wade scored 27 and 22, respectively; while Charles Stamp, who was crowned Man of the Match, took 5 wickets. For Golden Eagles, Johnathan Benjamin scored 26, and Percival Joseph took 2 wickets.

At Flowers Bank, Wicked 11 over Western Eagles, 242 to 113. For Wicked 11, Vince Robinson and Brandon Lewis scored 44 and 43, respectively; and Keon Robinson took 6 wickets. Keon Robinson was named Man of the Match. For Western Eagles, Marcel McNab and Sherston Brown took 2 wickets each.

Summa Feva had no sympathy for Surprise by defeating them easily, 99 to 103, with 4 spare wickets. For Surprise, Kenroy Reynolds scored 36. For Summa Feva, Maurice Castillo scored 41, while Andrew Banner, Sr. and Gareth Banner, Jr. took 4 wickets each.

BDF overpowered Excellence, 66 to 69 with 6 spare wickets. For Excellence, Tayshaun Flowers scored 32, and Orson Flowers took 3 wickets. For BDF, Travis Stephenson scored 18, and Travis Samuels and Glenroy Reynolds took 4 wickets each. Travis Samuels was named Man of the Match.

Brave Union Boys showed Long Journey that they are not to be taken lightly by defeating them, 147 to 71. For the Union boys, Germaine Thompson and Tyrel Young scored 34 and 21, respectively, while Jahlen Thompson took 4 wickets. Jahlen Thompson was named Man of the Match. For Long Journey, Jamal Shaw scored 20, while Leslie Moody and Kayan Dawson took 4 and 3 wickets, respectively.

On Sunday the day started looking good for cricket, but nature took its course. Rain started, so both matches scheduled to be played were canceled. Points were shared. Of interest, though, St. Paul’s Strikers were scheduled to play against Tropical Disturbance. Both teams are strongly matched and are in the top bracket. Freddy Pakeman of the Strikers decided that he will take no chances with Howell Gillett of Tropical Disturbance, so he flew in his son, Jaron Pakeman, who plays with CalBel Cricket Club in Los Angeles, to strengthen Strikers against Howell’s team, Tropical Disturbance. Tropical Disturbance took to bat, and Howell was out for 00000. Another wicket fell. Disturbance scored only 17 when the skies got dark and rain fell. It’s anybody’s guess how the game would have ended. Points were shared.

The games continue this weekend:

On 20th – Brave 11 Reloaded vs Golden Eagles at Rancho; Rising Star vs Long Journey at Gardenia; Wicked 11 vs Excellence at Double Head Cabbage.

On 21st – Sunrise vs Summa Feva at Lords Bank.

(Just a little information, Brilliant had dropped off the competition earlier.)

That’s all, my brothers and sisters! Have a fun-filled weekend of cricket.  SHARE THE LOVE!
