James Young’s son murdered – streets expect retaliation!

GeneralJames Young’s son murdered – streets expect retaliation!
Sometime between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. last Friday night, the son of well-known businessman James Young, Sr., Calvin Young, a.k.a. “Kelvin Young,” 24, was found stabbed to death inside his apartment at #2323 Juliet Soberanis Street in the Belama Phase I Extension of Belize City.

The deceased’s friend and roommate, Floyd Wade, 18, was also stabbed, but has survived and is tonight listed in a stable but critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Wade is under police guard. According to the police this is for his protection, since one of his alleged attackers is still at large. According to police, Wade’s attacker is believed to be Arthur Young, a well known underworld personality. Police say they have placed an All Points Bulletin (APB) for Arthur Young’s arrest.

The second suspect, identified as Errol Haynes, was taken to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court late this evening. Because of the late hour Haynes appeared in court, the matter was adjourned for tomorrow morning, when he will appear in front of a magistrate, we were told by court personnel.

Haynes is expected to be charged with Calvin Young’s murder and the attempted murder of Floyd Wade, among other charges.

Police say that at around 10:35 p.m., acting upon information received at the control room, they visited #2323 Soberanis Street in the Belama Phase I Extension area, where they saw a man lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

The man was later identified as Calvin Young, 24, a boat captain, who had been stabbed in the back, neck and head.

Police investigation into the incident has revealed that Young was at home with Wade and two other men, now identified as Arthur Young and Errol Haynes, a.k.a. “Butch.”

Police say that Wade got up to go to the bathroom and was followed by one of the men, he was then attacked and stabbed. He fell to the floor and pretended to be dead, and his attacker left the room.

Young, who was left outside with the other man, was heard screaming for help. Upon hearing his friend screaming for help, Wade ran out of the house.

According to police, Young was stabbed to death by the two attackers left in the house after Wade managed to escape.

A Chinese businessman from the area told the newspaper that he was downstairs in his store when he heard a loud noise coming from the third floor of the building. It sounded like something had fallen, he said, but he did not come out to see what had caused the noise, said the Chinese man.

But a neighbor in the area said that it was one of the occupants of the third floor that had made the noise.

We understand that Wade threw himself from the balcony of the third floor and on to the verandah of the second floor while fleeing from his attacker.

He managed to escape without further injuries and sought refuge at a nearby Chinese home in the area.

At a press conference held this afternoon by the Police Department, they were unable to say whether or not the death of Young would lead to any kind of retaliation, given the status of his father. According to Senior Superintendent Wiley, the department has beefed up patrols, though they have not received any indication to suggest any such retaliation may occur.

When Amandala spoke with the deceased’s mother today, she refrained from speaking on the matter, stating that her son is dead and that we need to speak with the people from the Belama area where he lived.

The building where the alleged stabbing occurred is owned by Calvin Young’s father, James Young, Sr.
