CrimeJaziba Nasser, 36, granted bail after lawyer makes application due to her pregnancy

Her lawyer told the court that she has been suffering from premature labour pains and KOLBE does not have facility to properly care for her

Jaziba Nasser, 36, has been on remand since last Thursday when she and her family were arraigned in Belize City for keeping unlicensed ammunition. Due to the nature of the offense, they could not be offered bail at the Magistrate’s Court and Jaziba, being 8 months pregnant, nevertheless was carted away with her two sons and husband to prison.

This morning, their new lawyer, Richard “Dickie” Bradley, made an application to the court in which he presented a report from Jaziba’s doctor who stated that she was experiencing premature labour and needed constant attention from a physician.

A letter was also presented from the KOLBE Foundation, which stated that their facility was not equipped to deal with her condition or provide the kind of attention she needed.

The Crown, represented by Sheneiza Smith, made no objections to her being granted bail, but asked that the court set conditions for her bail. Those conditions were that Jaziba hand over all her travel documents to the court, and she cannot leave the country without the permission of the court.

Justice John “Troadio” Gonzalez then offered bail of $8,000 and one surety of the same amount for the pregnant woman. Jaziba and her family are due back in court on November 29, 2013, in San Pedro.
