“Killa Cam,” 15, executed

Crime“Killa Cam,” 15, executed

Police found his body in a secluded area of Port Loyola Monday night

A 15-year-old boy who was recently detained by police in connection with a street-side murder, and who apparently had already established a reputation for himself in the gang world, was executed in a secluded area of Port Loyola Monday night.

Police, on mobile patrol deep inside the territory considered to be the turf of the warring Jane Usher Boulevard gang, found the body of Kevin Conner, 15.

Police reported that when their patrol, which originated from Precinct 2, stumbled upon Conner’s body around 10:15 Monday night, he had gunshot wounds to the left side of the temple and to the left side of the jaw.

The only evidence that Conner’s killer, or killers, left behind were an expended .38 mm shell casing and a live .38 round, which was found near his body. These two pieces of evidence may be able to aid the police’s investigation of this latest homicide in the Jane Usher Boulevard area, where there has been a spike in gun violence lately.

Police have confirmed that Conner, who is known in the streets as “Killa Cam,” was a person of interest in their investigation of the murder of Patrick Bevans, which occurred on April 22, 2014. Conner was detained, questioned and released, police say.

Patrick Bevans, 22, died from a hail of bullets sprayed at him from a .9mm handgun. He was heading toward his house when he was hit by his attacker, who struck with ruthless precision, leaving 9 expended shells in the wake of the brutal attack.

Bevans, who walked with the aid of crutches after he was shot with an M4 carbine assault rifle in January by a police and BDF patrol, was about 150 yards from his house when he was mercilessly cut down.

It is that murder that street sources pinned on Kevin “Killa Cam” Conner, which may have been a contributory cause for his murder.

Sharon Conner, 41, Kevin Conner’s mother, told Amandala that when he left home after 9:00 a.m. on Monday, she “did not know that that was going to be the last time” she would see her son alive.

His mother said that Kevin had dropped out of Sister Clara Mohamed Primary School when he reached Standard 6. He was not working, but would sometimes earn money doing various odd jobs, when he was not hanging out with his friends.

She said that she found out about his death when police went to her West Collet Canal Street home shortly after 12:01 this morning, Tuesday, to inform her that, “they found my son dead back-a Customs.”

Conner said that after police had given her the tragic news, she and one of her daughters went to the morgue at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital to identify her son’s body.

Asked if he had gone missing, Conner said, “He would ah go hang out with his friends and come back home every evening.”

“When I see that it was after 9 in the night, I start worry. But I still never tek it bad,” Conner said, explaining that “sometimes he would a stay lee late and hang out with his friends.”

Since the news of his death, Conner said that none of her son’s friends have come to see her — “because of the area where I live,” she said, pointing toward Yarborough Bridge.

She said, “They have beef with the South Side Gang.”

“When you last saw him”, we asked her, “did he tell you if he was being threatened by anyone?”

“No, he never said nothing,” Conner replied.

“But from dem di call his name back deh, that da him kill this Patrick Bevans, I mi tell am no go back deh,” Conner related, adding that she had advised her son, “no trust dem boy.”

She added, “My son mi innocent a dat. That’s why he mi feel comfortable round dem. I know da ‘e same friends whey ‘e heng-out wid, ker ah an’ gone kill am. Nobody can’t tek dat outta mi mind.”

Sharon Conner said that this is the second son that she has lost to gun violence.

In April 2012, almost two years to the date, her son, Christopher Jorgenson, 18, was shot and killed on the neighborhood basketball court.

“Ih get kill right in front a fi we house di play basketball, right back ah Jane Usher Boulevard,” Conner said. “That killing happened on Curl Thompson Street,” she added.

The police’s investigation of that murder led to the arrest of Keyron Johnson, a 20-year-old resident of the Jane Usher Boulevard area, who is still on remand for Jorgensen’s murder.
