Ladyville man chopped to death on highway

GeneralLadyville man chopped to death on highway

CARMELITA, Orange Walk District, Wed. July 22, 2020– Less than 48 hours after Ladyville resident Egbert Baldwin, 22, was shot and killed while riding a bicycle in the Japan area of the village at about 8:30 Saturday night, another Ladyville resident has been murdered, this time in Carmelita.

Police said that at about 10:00 last night in Carmelita, Terrique Munnings, 27, a laborer of Ladyville, was riding a bicycle on the Philip Goldson Highway along with two male minors, who were also riding bicycles.

Three men who were armed with machetes and who were walking on the road quickly attacked Munnings, causing him to fall off his bicycle.

The men chopped him in his back, chest, legs, and head.

When Munnings was attacked, the two minors who were with him fled from the scene.

After chopping Munnings, the killers then escaped, leaving Munnings dying on the ground.

Police went to the scene and Munnings’ body was taken to the Northern Regional Hospital. Police said that an initial investigation was launched, and two of the killers have been identified, and police are currently on the hunt for them.

The motive for the brutal murder is not yet known.

In July, 2019, Munnings was shot by a lone gunman in Ladyville, and as a result, he suffered a disability in his leg. The attempt on his life in Ladyville prompted him to move away to Carmelita to be with his mother and sister, and he has been in that village ever since.

Munnings is well known to police. In March 2018, he was charged with aggravated robbery. Police allege that he and another man jacked a Bowen and Bowen delivery truck that was making deliveries in Ladyville. The duo, Munnings and a minor, allegedly escaped with $900 from the store and $2,500 from the salesman, which was in a money bag.

Munnings, however, was acquitted of the charges.
