BELIZE CITY, Thurs. June 17, 2021– Police are investigating the death of a security guard who was found dead at sea around noon on Monday. Police have since identified the deceased man as Cecil Tillett, the hired caretaker of an island just 10 miles south of Belize City.

Initial reports are that he was last seen sometime last week, after being left on the island by his employer, Stanley Lamby, who had taken him to the island so that he could serve as a security guard.

Tillett’s body was in an advanced state of decomposition when it was found, and his left leg was missing. The police retrieved him from the waters, and he was pronounced dead. Tillett worked as a firefighter before resigning from the National Fire Service just two years ago. He also worked as a messenger for Bowen and Bowen and did other jobs as well. Tillett, also known affectionally as “mini-man” in his Lake I community was well known and loved.

His siblings and friends are calling police to do a full investigation into his sudden and untimely death.

On Thursday, June 15 a post mortem examination was conducted but due to the advance state of decomposition no cause of death could have been determined. They have not indicated whether they observed any signs of foul play.
