“May the glory of the Flowers Bank 14 never fade”

Letters“May the glory of the Flowers Bank 14 never fade”

Dear Editor,

It’s that time of year again when we are hearing patriotic songs and most Belizeans affirm their patriotism. I always find it quite amusing that no Belizean artist in the past and even now, has ever written a song honoring the Flowers Bank 14 who bravely paddled from their village to vote.

The inhabitants of then Belize Town had already voted to abandon the settlement but because of the 14 votes, the tally was in favour of staying and fight, and not running away.

Instead of praising the Baymen, I think those guys should get all the honour on the 10th of September; it’s because of them we have a Belize today.

“May the glory of the Flowers Bank 14 never fade, as we march and sing and wave our flags today.”

Hip! Hip! Hurrah!!! for the Flowers Bank 14, and that’s the reason why I parade on the 10th September.
