Mr. Evan X Hyde
Publisher Amandala

Dear Mr. Hyde:

I refer to your Editorial of October 12, 2008 and From the Publisher of October 22, 2008, which speak of a “charge’ made by one of your Kremandala Show panelists that my campaign for the UDP Mayoral candidacy was financed by Lord Michael Ashcroft.

I wish to, through this letter to you, state, categorically, that at NO time did I ask for nor did I receive ANY finance from Lord Michael Ashcroft for my campaign.

On the contrary, I was fortunate to receive numerous small and other contributions from individual residents and business owners, who felt the need to help me with my campaign. These contributions were coupled with the overwhelming support of the thousands of Belizeans across this country who approve of me as a role model and a growing political leader, and with the hundreds of experienced organizers and street soldiers of the UDP, who worked tirelessly to re-elect me as the party’s Mayoral candidate. My campaign was indeed Powered By The People!

Needless to say, I have enjoyed a growing relationship with the Kremandala organization and have shared a personal friendship with many individuals behind the “zinc fence” that goes way beyond politics. This friendship has grown to a point where I will do nothing to jeopardize the relationship.

It is with this in mind that I felt compelled to put on record that I view such baseless accusations from that particular Kremandala Show panelist as a personal attack on my credibility and all that I fought for along with the unions, business community, “zinc fence,” and all those thousands of Belizeans in 2004 and 2005. Indeed, if that person’s candidate did not win the UDP Mayoral Convention, then I see it sinister and even irresponsible to openly accuse me of something that is totally untrue. Others have seen it as an attempt to drive a wedge between the relationships I share with those of the “zinc fence.”

I wish to end by thanking all those who supported me either openly or silently, and state once more that I will continue to work my hardest to help bring further development and growth for all residents of Belize City.

Sincerely,
(Signed) Zenaida Moya (Ms.)
Mayor of Belize City
