BELMOPAN, Sat. June 26, 2021– Today, Belize joins the world in celebrating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which is commonly known as World Drug Day.
The theme of World Drug Day this year is “Share Facts on Drugs. Save Lives.” Observed annually on June 26, the day has been set aside as a time to consider collective actions and cooperative efforts that have been undertaken and must currently be undertaken to rid the world of drug abuse.
Through the National Drug Abuse Control Council, the Ministry of Health and Wellness has instituted programs to prevent and treat drug dependency in Belize. Over the past week, health offices countrywide have set up satellite booths and informational fairs, aimed at increasing awareness of the facts on drugs, their dangers, and evidence-based prevention, treatment, and care.
In a release from the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness, calls on all Belizeans to join the ministry in providing community support to those addicted to harmful substances.
