Yesterday, a day celebrated as Mother’s Day, ended in tragedy for Gregorio Novelo, who owns Novelo’s Photo Studio in town, and his family after the body of his daughter, Ana Maria Novelo, 33, a single mother of a 6-year-old boy, was found dead on the floor of an incomplete house in a pasture in the Albert Burns area of town.
According to police, at about 5:00 p.m. yesterday they responded to reports of a female calling for assistance.
Upon their arrival in the Albert Burns area, they searched an incomplete concrete house, where they saw the body of a female lying on the floor with injuries to the head.
The female, who has since been identified as Ana Novelo, was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where she was officially pronounced dead on arrival, said police.
Neighbours told police that sometime before 5:00 p.m., they heard cries for help coming from the building. A man was seen leaving the area immediately following the woman’s scream for help.
Gregorio Novelo, who is in his 70’s, cannot comprehend who would want his daughter dead. He described his daughter as a well-known, community-friendly person who had no enemies.
Anna reportedly was killed by being hit in the head with a rock, or something solid. She lay on the floor, covered in a pool of blood dripping from the face, head and upper body area, said a witness, who was first on the scene and who called the police.
A post-mortem is scheduled to be conducted on the body sometime this week.
Funeral services are uncertain at this time.
