Mother of three remanded for stealing $185 bike

GeneralMother of three remanded for stealing $185 bike
A mother of three, part of a group of women that stopped a cyclist, a construction worker, on Lakeview Street Wednesday night and then stole his bicycle – has been charged and remanded to Hattieville Prison until June 30.

Ebony Flowers, 23, remained silent rather than attempt to explain to Magistrate Sharon Frazier in court on Friday why she should be given bail for the offence of theft. Prosecutors expressed concern that Flowers or her family might try to intimidate the victim.

Jose Hernandez of Queen Street was riding on Lakeview Street around 7:30 on Wednesday night, June 11, when he was brought to a stop by a group of women crossing the street.

Hernandez says one of the women, wearing a pink blouse and short pants, then grabbed his shirt, but Hernandez broke her grip and sprinted for Logwood Street, leaving his bicycle, a 26’ blue Horizon beach cruiser, behind.

The same woman, Hernandez says, then picked up the abandoned bike and handed it to one of her companions, who rode off on it into an alley, which leads to Mayflower Street.

Hernandez took his complaint to police, and led them to the first female. Police still have a second suspect in custody.
