Gabino Garnett, Jr., 23, a laborer of San Ignacio who was wanted on murder charges in San Ignacio and has been on the run from police, was arrested today and charged for the death of Earl Baizar, 19, of Dangriga.

Garnett was arraigned today at the San Ignacio Magistrate’s Court on the murder charge, and has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Baizar was stabbed in the chest on Saturday, March 8, in front of the Atlantic Bank in San Ignacio during an altercation with a man who later was identified as Garnett.

Police said that Garnett stabbed Baizar four times in different part of the body — the left side of the chest, the left hand, his left underarm and his right thigh — during an altercation on March 8.

They said that, on Tuesday, Garnett handed in himself to police at the San Ignacio Police Station, where he was immediately arrested and taken into custody.

Police say that about 12:30 that Saturday morning, Baizar was socializing at the Blue Angels Club when he became involved in an altercation with a man, and they were both expelled from the club by the security officers.

While he was walking away on Burns Avenue, Baizar was approached by the same man, who stabbed him multiple times. The assailant, who was driving an ATV motorcycle, drove away after the stabbing, police say.

People in the area who saw what happened rushed Baizar to the San Ignacio Hospital, but he died shortly after.
