Murder/attempted suicide in Sugar City

HeadlineMurder/attempted suicide in Sugar City
At press time tonight, Miguel Chan, 41, is on life support at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City and his common-law wife, Concepcion Alvarez, 34, is dead in the second confirmed murder for 2010.

The Sugar City is buzzing, say our sources, as the murder/attempted suicide inside Las Margaritas Bar, located in the “Pasadita” area of Orange Walk behind Landy’s and Sons on the Belize/Corozal Road, between 4:00 and 4:30 this afternoon, came as something completely unexpected.

Chan reportedly walked into the bar, which he owned with his common-law wife, confronted and shot her in the head, and then walked back outside to his vehicle and turned the gun on himself, reportedly shooting himself in the head.

Unconfirmed reports from witnesses to the incident are that he was under the influence of alcohol. Chan was initially rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk Town in a critical condition before being transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

A police investigation is underway and the murder weapon, reportedly a licensed .38 revolver, has been recovered from the scene.

Amandala is informed that the couple had lived together for many years and owned Las Margaritas, but the motive for today’s sudden attack is as yet unknown to anyone.
