NEBL basketball highlights – only Cayo Western Ballers still undefeated at Week 3

The inaugural National Elite Basketball League tournament continued over the weekend with all 8 teams seeing action; and only one, Cayo Western Ballers remains undefeated after 3 exciting weeks of Elite League basketball.

Here in Belize City on Friday night at Bird’s Isle, Belize City’s Smart No Limit pulled out all stops against the Orange Walk Running Rebels, beating them by a comfortable 83-59 margin. Top scorers for No Limit were J. Enriquez 16 pts 3 rebs, Brian White 15 pts 14 rebs, Greg “Chippy” Rudon 14 pts 9 rebs 7 assts, Andrew “Bynum” Ortiz 11 pts 10 rebs 3 blks, and Matthew Young 5 pts 11 rebs; while the Running Rebels had Randy Usher 16 pts 5 rebs, but he suffered 7 turnovers, O. Tesecum 12 pts 6 rebs, and R. Sutherland 9 pts 4 rebs.

On Saturday night, out in San Pedro at the Roman Catholic School auditorium, the San Pedro Tigersharks won, 79-54, over the Corozal Heats. Leading the Tigersharks were Winston Pratt 20 pts 4 rebs, A. Edwards 18 pts, Darwin “Puppy” Leslie 14 pts 4 rebs, and M. Adams 10 pts 11 rebs 6 blks; while the Heats had J. Daly 11 pts, and he suffered 6 turnovers, J. Grant 10 pts 13 rebs, and G. Lennan 10 pts 7 rebs.

Also on Saturday, the Cayo Western Ballers continued their winning ways at the Sacred Heart College auditorium, as they defeated the visiting Dangriga Warriors, 63-52, behind Farron Louriano 17 pts 13 rebs, Ivan Flowers 13 pts 3 stls, Richard Troyer 12 pts 8 rebs, Kurt “Chengo” Burgess 7 pts 7 rebs 8 stls; while the Warriors were led by Gary Francisco 13 pts 4 rebs 3 assts, Trevaughn Usher 12 pts 3 rebs 4 stls, and Macario Augustine 6 pts 14 rebs.

The third Saturday night encounter took place at the UB gymnasium in Belmopan, where the Belmopan Point Bandits defeated the visiting Toledo Diplomats, 76-64. Top scorers for the Bandits were Kyle Pascascio 25 pts, Jordan Young and Chris Rodriguez with 14 pts each; while the Diplomats were led by Evon Lino 19 pts and Santos Avila 17 pts.
