Enriquez said that the reason why he and six other residents of Belmopan formed VIP was because they saw a need for positive change. He is confident that VIP can make those changes for Belmopan under the theme: ?Stand Up.?
Campaigning for mayor is Paul Morgan, Sr.; Robert ?Bobby? Lopez, Hubert Enriquez, Elvira Brown, Henry Dueck, David Gonzalez, and Kamil Espat form the rest of the slate. Most of these candidates are self-employed and own businesses in Belmopan, we are told.
Enriquez, who is the General Secretary of VIP, said that his party would officially launch their campaign on Saturday, December 3, at the Belmopan Convention Hotel.
Enriquez said that in the near future they will be appearing on various shows and will go on a house-to-house campaign to educate the public more about VIP and its mission.
Enriquez, Morgan and Lopez are no strangers to the political campaigns, as they were independent candidates in the last Belmopan City Council elections. Enriquez said that in that election, they got very good feedback, and are confident of a better voter turnout for the next election.
The Belmopan City Council election is scheduled for March 2006.
