HUMMINGBIRD HIGHWAY, Mon. Nov. 2, 2020– A motorcyclist from Dangriga died yesterday in a traffic accident on the Hummingbird Highway, and his passenger is currently hospitalized.

The motorcyclist has been identified as Alwin Gifford Cayetano, 25, a Belizean construction worker who resided on 7th Street in the Benguche Area in Dangriga Town, and his passenger was Tyrique Lopez, 21, a Belizean laborer of 3rd Street, Benguche Area, Dangriga Town.

At around 8:30 a.m., Cayetano and Lopez were on a 2018 Peda 200 CC motorcycle travelling from Dangriga toward Belmopan when, upon nearing an “S” curve between Miles 34 and 35, Cayetano lost control of the motorcycle, which collided with a metal rail guard on the opposite side of the highway.

Both men were flung from the motorbike and suffered severe head and body injuries.
Unfortunately, Cayetano died on the scene, while Lopez was taken to the Western Regional Hospital and is in a stable condition.
