A fifty-five-year-old woman of Caye Caulker, believed to be suffering from depression, ended her life at around 1:35 p.m. today, when she pulled the trigger on herself.
Sources say that naturalized Belizean, Patricia Holden, owner of Oceanside Nightclub in Caye Caulker, was alone in her bedroom when a single gunshot was heard.
Caye Caulker police say her husband, O.J. Holden, following the echoes of the shot, rushed to her bedroom and found her lying across the bed, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
At the scene, a licensed .25 caliber pistol belonging to Holden was found beside her motionless body. Also retrieved from the scene were 2 live rounds, one in the chamber and the other in the magazine, and one expended shell.
A medical examiner called to the scene pronounced her dead.
So far, police are treating the incident as a suicide, following the discovery of a note that Holden had emailed to several of her friends.
Nonetheless, they said they will continue to investigate the incident.
A history on her laptop computer showed that she had emailed the note at around 12:46 p.m., a short time before shooting herself.
And after receiving and reading the email, a friend of Holden became very concerned and contacted O.J., telling him that he should check on his wife.
Holden’s body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where it now awaits a post-mortem.
