CrimePG machete and knife fight

Two young men of Punta Gorda are presently hospitalized – one in the Punta Gorda Hospital and the other at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital – after they chopped and stabbed one another respectively while fighting in Punta Gorda yesterday afternoon on George Price Street.

According to police, Eden Mejia, 24, of Pampana Street, Punta Gorda, stabbed Jordy Flores, 26.

Inspector Ernel Dominguez, Deputy Commander of Punta Gorda police, said that Mejia and Flores became involved in an argument, which then led to a fight. Mejia, who was armed with a knife, stabbed Flores several times and then left the area.

As a result, Jordy Flores, of Far West Street, Punta Gorda, suffered cut wounds to the right arm, right wrist, bottom lip, left arm, left ear and the left side of the head.

Flores, said Inspector Dominquez, then went for his machete, and at the same time got his brother to accompany him as he went looking for Mejia. The two men got into their vehicle and began to look for Mejia around the town, and they found him in front of Supaul Superstore, on George Price Street.

The men got out of the vehicle and they attacked Mejia, and one of the Flores brothers inflicted several chop wounds to him with the machete.

According to police, Mejia suffered large cut wounds to the right and left shoulders, his forehead, a large cut wound to the left wrist, and also, three of his left fingers – the pinkie, ring and middle fingers – were almost severed.

Mejia was also chopped on the right side of the forehead, the left side of the mouth, and also on the right side of the chest. He is in a critical but stable condition, in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).

Both men were first taken to the Punta Gorda Hospital, where Flores was admitted to ward, but Mejia was later rushed to the KHMH.

Police said that the men will be charged when they are released from the hospital. Jordy Flores’s younger brother was detained, but was released pending the outcome of police’s investigation, said Inspector Dominguez.
