Police press release playing “catch-up” with suspected drug plane landing

GeneralPolice press release playing “catch-up” with suspected drug plane landing

BELIZE CITY, Wed. Feb. 20, 2019– A suspected drug plane landed in northern Belize on Monday, according to an online post on social media, but police did not report on the incident until today, Wednesday.

In their report, however, the police backdated their release by one day. The police release is dated February 19.

Interestingly, when we called Corporal Hortense Hernandez, the police press officer, yesterday, Tuesday, inquiring about the suspected drug plane landing, we were told, “I cannot confirm nor deny allegation of that. I have no information, but if and when I get the information it will be shared with the media.”

Around 2:30 p.m. today the police issued this release: “19.2.2019 acting upon information of an illegal aircraft landing, police visited a farm road about 18 kilometers southeast of Blue Creek Community, where they discovered the charred remains of a single-engine aircraft on the road. The area was canvassed and police found 3 aircraft seats, 3 full (50) litter [sic] containers and twelve (20) litter [sic] containers full with suspected aviation fuel. No one was in the area at the time of the discovery. Police are investigating.”

Is it possible that the plane landed and was destroyed, and that somehow, the police did not know about the incident until yesterday, Tuesday?
