BELIZE CITY, Fri. Mar. 27, 2020– This morning at about 3:00, Kenrick Reneau, 40, a laborer of Consuelo Street in the Pickstock area was shot by police after he attempted to rob a store on Mahogany Street, just about 150 feet from the Mahogany Street Police Station.
He was found in the store and behaved aggressively towards police when they tried to arrest him. He was shot in the leg by the officers, then he was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted in a stable condition, under police custody.
During a search of the area near the store, police found Reneau’s accomplice hiding under a bus. The man was also taken into custody, pending charges of burglary and aggravated assault.
The owner of the store told police that he was in his quarters, which are located in the same space in which the store is located, when he was awakened by movements in his store and called police, who went to the store and found the thief, who tried to escape.
This is not the first time, however, that Reneau has been shot during a robbery. Just over 5 months ago, on October 10, 2019, Reneau was shot 5 times in his leg and shoulder while he was being pursued by police after fleeing from a burglary/robbery.
He was caught in a swamp in the Linda Vista Street area of Lake Independence. Police said that he fired at them and they retaliated, firing back at him.
Reneau was charged with 7 counts of aggravated assault and was remanded. He was able to meet Supreme Court bail and was released.
