BELIZE CITY, Fri. Sept. 1, 2017–A former prison officer from the Kolbe-managed Belize Central Prison was brought to court late this afternoon to be arraigned on a charge of aggravated assault.

Calbert Reynolds, 27, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Sharon Fraser, who arraigned him on charges of aggravated assault and use of threatening words.

Reynolds pleaded not guilty to the charges and was offered bail of $600 plus one surety in the same amount.

Reynolds told Magistrate Fraser that he was not aware of the charges against him until about 10 minutes before he was brought to court to answer to them.

The incident for which Reynolds is being charged, occurred on August 26 at the Cricket Field in Double Head Cabbage. Well-known attorney and former Crown Counsel, Leroy Banner, reported to police that Reynolds assaulted him with a beer bottle and threatened to hit his face with a cricket bat.

Reynolds reportedly was restrained by villagers.
