Providence Holy Cross donates 200 infusion pumps

BELMOPAN, Tues. Mar. 2, 2021– In a short handing-over ceremony, 200 infusion pumps were donated to the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW). The contribution was made possible through a small group of members of the Belize diaspora, who are healthcare workers at Providence Holy Cross medical center. The package was received by the Ministry’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Deysi Mendez.

Infusion pumps are medical devices used to deliver fluids to a patient’s body, in a controlled manner. Infusion pumps have a variety of uses but are often used in applying insulin or other hormones, antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, and pain relievers to the body, usually by means of intravenous (IV) or epidural procedures.

The rise of the COVID-19 pandemic has made infusion pumps a staple in the medicinal industry. Around the globe, healthcare professionals have been using infusion pumps in blood transfusions to provide patients with blood plasma that already has high levels of COVID-19 antibodies.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness thanked Edward Lord, Patricia Lord, Sophie Torres and Estelita Briceño for their assistance in delivering the equipment, which will be of great use to the people of Belize.
