SAN IGNACIO, Sat. Oct. 31, 2020– Former People’s United Party Minister of State and area representative Ainslie Leslie was laid to rest on Sunday, November 1, in his home town of San Ignacio. The former government minister died last Thursday at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). Complications related to COVID-19 are suspected to be the cause of his death.

Reports are that he was admitted to the San Ignacio Hospital before being transported to the KHMH in respiratory distress. He was admitted to the COVID-19 insulation unit, but died in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Brother Les, as he was affectionately known, brought victory to the PUP in Cayo North at a time when that constituency was known to be a stronghold for the UDP. Leslie was elected as area representative for Cayo North in two elections under the Musa administration, from 1998 to 2008. He served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Environment, and Commence and Industry. He was known as an affectionate and hardworking representative for Cayo North, and was remembered by his colleagues for his natural people skills and the tenderness he showed toward those whom he met on the campaign trail.

The PUP said, “It is with profound sadness that the People’s United Party announces the passing of Hon. Ainslie Leslie, aka Brother Les. May Brother Les rest in peace and rise to eternal bliss.”
