HeadlineRas Indio’s son, 14, killed in Dangriga

DANGRIGA, Stann Creek District, Fri. Aug. 6, 2021– Last Thursday night, a 14-year-old boy was killed on Gumagarugu Street in Dangriga a short time after the start of the nightly curfew, while he was heading to his grandfather’s house. The victim has since been identified as Kwame Williams, son of renowned Belizean reggae artist, Ras Indio.

Williams was reportedly shot several times by an unknown gunman, who was riding a bicycle.

Eyewitnesses of the shooting believe that he was targeted directly, but no motive for this recent killing has yet been ascertained. According to Police, Williams is not a part of the gang rivalry currently taking hold in Dangriga, police believe he was killed as a result of mistaken identity.

They report that he had a dispute with his stepfather that night and decided to go over to his grandfather’s house when he was targeted and fatally shot. His death marks the passing of yet another teenage male in the country. Like his father, Ras Indio, and grandfather, Bredda David, Kwame was a musician himself.
