No death was reported

Six people were involved in two separate road traffic accidents, on the George Price and the Philip Goldson Highways.

Police said that about 2:30 this afternoon, two vehicles, an SUV and a pickup truck, collided on the George Price Highway between Miles 25 and 26. The driver of the SUV, identified as Kevin Castillo, an auctioneer, was trapped in his vehicle. He was eventually cut out of the vehicle wreck by rescuers of the Fire Department that responded to the road accident as First Responders

Castillo was travelling to the city from Belmopan, and the truck was travelling to Belmopan when the collision occurred. Both vehicles were extensively damaged in the frontal collision. Both vehicles were taken to the Hattieville Police Station.

Traffic backed up for about half mile in both directions while Castillo was being cut out of his vehicle, and police processed the scene. He reportedly suffered a broken ankle and received treatment at Belize Medical Associates.

The driver of the pickup truck, David Medina, Jr., according to reports, was flung from the vehicle, and was found bleeding profusely, also suffering a large gash on the head. He is reportedly in a critical condition at Universal Healthcare Partners in Belize City.

In the other road accident, police said that about 3:15 on Saturday, July 27, Tessa Owdker, 49, of Bella Vista, was travelling to the northern border in her grey Toyota 4-Runner. With her in the vehicle at the time were Justice Courtney Abel, Belizean Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court, and a student, 13.

Reports are that that upon reaching between Miles 88 and 89 on the Philip Goldson Highway, a red Honda car travelling to Corozal, in the opposite direction, slammed into the 4-Runner.

Owdker controlled her vehicle and managed to bring it to a stop on the right side of the highway, while the Honda car also stopped, but on the left side of the highway. The driver of the car, Jorge Ivan Reyes, was assisted out of the vehicle and rushed to the Corozal Community Hospital. He was then transferred to the Carranza Hospital in Chetumal, Mexico, and is reportedly in a stable condition.

As a result of the collision, Reyes suffered broken ribs, cut wounds to the left knee, and a broken left wrist. Tessa Owdker and the minor were treated and released from the Corozal Community Hospital, while Justice Abel did not sustain any injuries.

Shortly after the accident, the car later became engulfed in flames.

Police are investigating.
