GeneralRoy Grinage, 29, drowns while swimming across the Belize River

SANTANDER, Cayo District, Mon. Feb. 17, 2020– Roy Grinage, 29, an employee of Santander who was a tractor operator of St. Matthews, Cayo District, drowned while swimming across the Belize River at about 12:30 Saturday afternoon to go home after work.

ACP Joseph Myvett said that while swimming across the river, Grinage suffered problems, causing him to go under, and he began to struggle, but he disappeared underwater.

One of his co-workers who saw what was happening went in to rescue him, and brought him out of the water. The worker began cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in an attempt to revive him, but the effort was in vain.

Grinage was taken to the Western Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead officially.
ACP Myvett said that investigation into the death has commenced and statements are being recorded.

Grinage’s father, however, thinks that there is more to the story than what is being said. He told the media that his son was an excellent swimmer and that he was a swimming instructor.

He also wonders what his son was doing in the river when his vehicle was waiting for him and a boat was to take him across the river.

Police, however, do not believe that foul play was involved.
