RUNNIN REBELS VISIT TIGERSHARKS, AND EAGLES HOST OILERS ON SATURDAY NIGHT

SportsRUNNIN REBELS VISIT TIGERSHARKS, AND EAGLES HOST OILERS ON SATURDAY NIGHT
In semi-pro basketball action scheduled for this coming weekend, the regular scheduled game between the (2-2) Orange Walk Eagles and the (1-3) BNE Oilers, which was to be played tonight in Orange Walk Town, has been moved to Saturday night instead. This change then means that two games will be played on Saturday night, with the other game being between the (3-1) San Pedro Tigersharks, who will be trying to move into a tie for first place with a win, and the Corozal Runnin Rebels. Meanwhile, the Runnin Rebels, who are on the bubble, having lost four games, will be trying for the upset.

The Rebels are hopeful that their second encounter with the Sharks, along with the addition of Eric Cheers (21.3 ppg 11.3 rpg), will prove more fruitful than their first, after they had to endure a heartbreaking loss at home earlier this year. All-time they are (0-3) against the Tigersharks, and, while they have been unable to register a win, have played well enough to beat the Tigersharks in two out of their last three encounters, losing by the slimmest of margins on April 29 of 2006 by the score of 70-66, and earlier this year by the score of 76-73. The Tigersharks, on the other hand, will be starting a stretch where they will play three out of their remaining four games at home. Normally, this would be welcomed by most teams; however, the Tigersharks have been, by and large, a team that is City based. They practice in the City; most of their players are from the City; and consequently, to some extent have cancelled out their home court advantage.

The other match-up on Saturday night will be interesting and full of intrigue, as the league’s leading scorer, Lester Cadle (32 ppg), will try to lead his team and put them over the .500 mark, and at the same time, on a personal note, will be trying for his fifth thirty-point-plus game in a row for the 2007 season. The Oilers, on the other hand, will be trying to avoid the 1-4 start, thereby keeping their post season dreams alive. They will be led by Aubrey Lopez (22.5 ppg 10.5 rpg), Edward “Bart” Sanchez and American import Windell Robinson, who, in his first game in Belize, was able to pull 10 rebounds in his team’s 85-76 loss last Thursday night in Belmopan.
