Carballo cried after the magistrate sentenced him

Salvador Carballo, 38, a resident of #100 Oleander Street, is spending his first night of an 18- month sentence in prison tonight after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated assault of an indecent nature and threatening words.

According to police, at 12:15 Sunday morning, September 8, the victim, a 20-year-old female, was walking on Morning Glory Street, in the Lake I area, when she was approached by Carballo, also known as “Salva.”

The victim told police that Carballo then grabbed her around her neck from behind, while at the same time, he attempted to take off her tights. She tried to scream, but Carballo tightened his grip on her neck, preventing any sound from coming out.

Carballo then released his hold on her and left her on the street, but that was not the last time she came in contact with Carballo.

The next day, Monday, September 9, as she was walking on Fairweather Street, again Carballo approached her, and threatened her saying “If you ever tell the police or anybody, I will kill you”.

The victim reported the matter to police, and after they investigated the case, police arrested Carballo yesterday.

When he appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith, he pleaded guilty to both offenses, but with an explanation. In his explanation, he told the court that he didn’t use a knife on the girl, but that was never mentioned when the prosecutor read the facts.

Then, to make matters worse, Carballo told the court that he had just been released from prison last week.

The Chief Magistrate then sentenced him to 18 months for the indecent assault, and explained to him that the only reason she was not sentencing him to two years was because he pleaded guilty to the charge and didn’t waste the court’s time.

Carballo started crying, telling the Chief Magistrate that he didn’t wish to return to prison. He then begged the court to allow him to change his plea, but it was too late for him to do that.

For the threatening words, he was sentenced to 6 months, which will run concurrently with the 18-month sentence.
