GeneralSan Andres villager survives shooting

SAN ANDRES, Corozal District, Mon. Dec. 17, 2020– A man from San Andres village had to be transferred from the Northern Regional Hospital to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City for advanced treatment after he was shot multiple times in the body.

Yesterday evening, sometime after 6:00 p.m., Corozal police visited the residence of Benigno Loria, 27, a self-employed Belizean, and found him inside a bedroom of the house, and his common-law-wife, who is a registered nurse, was attending to gunshot injuries to his left leg and chest.

His common-law-wife, Christine Kelly, 25, told investigators that around 6:30 p.m., Loria was standing in his garage and she was inside her vehicle in the driveway, waiting for the electrical gate to open so that she could leave, when an unknown gunman ran into the yard and fired several shots at Loria.

The attacker then exited the yard and headed toward the San Andres Road.

Loria was treated and is listed in a stable condition. Investigations into the shooting continue.
