San Felipe’s “field day” ends in Week 3 of Super League

SportsSan Felipe’s “field day” ends in Week 3 of Super League
One Saturday night and four Sunday afternoon games were played over the weekend in Week 3 of the Belize Bank Super League Tournament 2008.

At the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk yesterday afternoon, home standing San Felipe Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw by Cayo South United, bringing their short but spectacular winning streak of 9-1 and 5-1 to a screeching halt. After Deon Guzman put Cayo South ahead at the 15th minute from the penalty spot, San Felipe rebounded with two goals from Kenny Witzil at the 25th and 54th minute for the 2-1 lead. But their lead was ended at the 76th minute when Enrique Tamai struck for Cayo South for the 2-2 final score.

On Saturday night at the MCC Grounds, it was Valley Renaissance from Dangriga giving the home team Kraal Road F.C. their first defeat. After a scoreless first half, Jerome Parham struck at the 69th for Valley, and Alexander Peters added another at the 82nd minute for the 2-nil victory.

Yesterday afternoon at the Lucky Strike Field in Belize Rural, it was a second-half goal by Lyndon Brooks at the 56th minute that clinched the 1-nil win for visiting Texmar Boys, registering their third victory; while home standing Lucky Strike Black Orchid played their most competitive game so far, but still ended up on the short end of the score for their third loss.

Meanwhile, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio, the Western Rebels did not disappoint their home fans, putting away Tsunami F.C. from Caye Caulker with a 4-1 score to register their first victory of the young season. Burning the cords for the Rebels were Michael Burton at the 8th and 11th minute, Alfonso Diaz at the 41st, and Alden Coleman at the 90th. Steven Arnold got the only Tsunami goal at the 61st minute.

Also on Sunday afternoon, the Lake-Collet Survivors of Belize City travelled all the way to the Ricalde Stadium in Corozal where they gave a gallant effort, but still came up on the short end of a 3-2 final score. It was all Barrio Fino Corozal in the early going, with Francisco Vella shaking the net twice, at the 9th and 50th minute, and then Elenai Vargas making it 3-nil with his goal at the 53rd minute. But the guys from Lake-Collet would not say die, and came back strong with a goal at the 62nd minute from Alexander Belisle, and another from Kevin Rowland at the 80th minute. But it wasn’t enough, and at the long whistle the score remained 3-2 in favor of the home squad, Barrio Fino, who earned their first victory of the season.
