Sarteneja Road continues to pose serious difficulties for travelers

HighlightsSarteneja Road continues to pose serious difficulties for travelers

Persistent rains over the north of the country continue to delay assistance to those residing in communities along the Sarteneja Road — more than a quarter of which is presently covered by flood waters.

Information is that there are depths of water of about 3 feet on the road, which has stranded residents of Sarteneja and the nearby communities and continues to impede vehicles from travelling to the area.

Buses and other vehicles bringing people to the area are forced to halt before reaching their destination, making it necessary for passengers to disembark and wade through the waters on the flooded road to get to their various destinations.

NEMO Orange Walk sent soldiers to assist people who need to cross the flooded road, but the water level is too high for even their trucks to safely cross the flooded road.

NEMO announced that heavier machinery will be sent to the area. Because of the continuing rains, however, the water continues to rise, delaying the badly needed assistance to the area.
