BELIZE CITY, Mon. Jan. 9, 2017 – – The Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Football Tournament 2016-2017 kicks off today at the MCC Grounds with 2 games scheduled, 1 female and 1 male game.
There are 6 female teams participating in this year’s competition, while the 11 male teams taking part have been separated into two divisions, 6 teams in Division One and 5 teams in Division Two.
Female (F) teams are: Ladyville Technical High (LTH), St. Catherine Academy (SCA), Gwen Lizarraga High (GLH), Wesley College (WES), Maude Williams High (MWH), and Pallotti High School (PHS).
Male (M) teams are:
Division One: Belize High School (BHS), Ladyville Technical High (LTH), Maude Williams High (MWH), Nazarene High School (NHS), St. John’s College (SJC), and Sadie Vernon Technical (SVT).
Division Two: Anglican Cathedral College (ACC), Excelsior High School (EHS), Edward P. Yorke High (EPY), Gwen Lizarraga High (GLH), and Wesley College (WES).
It will be a short tournament, as usual, with the Nationals slated to take place on February 17-18. The females will therefore play a single round-robin regular season, while the males will also play a single round-robin in each division.
There are 2 games, 1 female and 1 male, scheduled for each week day, starting at 4:30 p.m.; while 3 male games are scheduled for two consecutive Saturdays, with 4 games on the final Saturday of regular season, kick-off time being 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

Tue. Jan. 10 – (F) GLH vs WES; (M) BHS vs SVT.
Wed. Jan. 11 – (F) MWH vs PHS; (M) EHS vs WES.
Thurs. Jan. 12 – (F) SCA vs GLH; (M) MWH vs NHS.
Fri. Jan. 13 – (F) WES vs PHS; (M) SJC vs BHS.
Sat. Jan. 14 – (M) EPY vs GLH; (M) SVT vs NHS; (M) LTH vs MWH.
Playoffs will be during the week beginning on January 30, and the finals take place the following week.
Entrance fee at regular season games is $2.00, and $3.00 for games in the playoffs.
