Security guards charged for handling stolen goods

CrimeSecurity guards charged for handling stolen goods
Brothers Herman, 42, and Ronald Miranda, 34, security guards of a Partridge Street address, were caught with the proceeds of a burglary at the University of Belize campus on Freetown Road (the former Belize Technical College), where they were employed, and paid the price when appearing in the Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The Mirandas are accused of handling stolen goods, rather than the more severe charge of burglary, because police searched their home at #1043 Partridge Street last Wednesday, October 29, and recovered some of the stolen items.

UB Dean and lecturer Sylvia Cattouse, 59, reported the burglary on October 29, and estimated that it took place sometime between the start of September and October 27.

$8,150 worth of kitchen appliances and accessories, including a microwave, dinnerware set and a large plastic container, were stolen and later recovered from the Mirandas’ residence; a large freezer is still missing.

Both brothers face a count each of handling stolen goods, while Ronald faces an additional count for the microwave. They pleaded not guilty, were offered bail of $3,000 and ordered to return to court on November 4.
