Shaquille Meighan, 18, arraigned for shooting incident on Victoria Street

CrimeShaquille Meighan, 18, arraigned for shooting incident on Victoria Street

Police have charged Shaquille Meighan, 18, a former Wesley College student, with a shooting that occurred on Victoria Street on Tuesday, June 10.

This morning, Meighan was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer on a single charge of aggravated assault with a firearm, upon Maurice Middleton.

Meighan, who was represented by attorney Arthur Saldivar, pleaded not guilty to the charge. But due to the nature of the offense, he could not be granted bail and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next scheduled court date on July 5.

According to police, around 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, less than seven hours after Mayflower Street resident Rafael Cruz was targeted and shot on Vernon Street, gunshots rang out on Victoria Street.

Police reported that a lone gunman was the shooter, but he missed his intended target, who, they believe, was Maurice Middleton, a young man who was just hanging out in the Victoria Street area.
